Earlier this year the VINE Initiative board of directors put in motion the steps in identifying needy students and distributing scholarship
funds to the selected recipients. These students range from early elementary through high school. The process began with finding a coordinator in the area. Chichi Agube agreed to fill this role and made arrangements for the leaders of each school to supply VINE with a list of students who displayed financial challenges along with the cost of annual tuition per student. The VINE board of directors reviewed and approved the list based on priority of the students’ needs. VINE is now in partnership with six schools where 60+ students have received full tuition paid to their school along with a stipend for books and uniforms. Ms. Agube met with the school staff and parents to see that this transaction ran smoothly, and funds were distributed correctly. The VINE goal is to adopt 70 students through scholarships. A short list is being reviewed by the board to fill the final slots. The VINE plan is to provide scholarships to these students each year as they proceed through the education system. Father Levi Nkwocha, the founder and president of VINE, plans to meet with the adopted students on his visit in January. For $50 a year you could sponsor a child’s education through VINE.
